Kearney & Foot Co.

Kearney & Foot Co. of Paterson, New Jersey and Kent, Ohio was bought by Nicholson in 1901. Nicholson continued selling files with the brand name K&F until 1972. After 1972, Cooper sold some files with the K&F name that were made in Mexico and Brazil.

  1. Thank you for posting this information. Although this comment likely won't ever be read, I sincerely appreciate this effort. Even more amazing is that Harry J Epstein company is mentioned. I don't think I've seen any blog other than Toolguy'd mention them before.

    1. I live in Aus and have one also - it was my grandfather's and he used it to trim the horses hooves and it was still in his tool box when he passed away. He was born 1910.

    1. This was a secondary brand, and I have not located any K&F catalogs. Only the first-quality Nicholson and Black Diamond files were in catalogs.

    2. What do you mean by secondary ? Wasn't Kearney & Foot from 1800s- Nicholson from 1900s ?

  8. I have a couple that are 7 inches long and shaped sort of like a kayak paddle, that is, a flat on each end, albeit pointed. The mid portion is round and a bit more than 1/8th inch thick. The stamp says - KEARNEY & FOOT. MADE IN U.S.A. It looks like they were never used.

  10. I found a box containing six new never used K&F files in the original box, so cool. They came out of a school shop class being shut down.
