The YouTube link in comments is for G.S. McLelland's 1905 American Swiss File & Tool Co., 410 Trumbull Elizabeth, N.J.
This is a short personal history of the videographer's grandfather, who was a grinder at American Swiss File & Tool Co. from 1916 to 1941. It includes a tour of the outside and inside of the building, which JJJ Distributors occupies today.

ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather, Peter Staack, worked there for many years into the late 1940's as the power engineer. His son, Roy Staack, did also.I believe it is Peter in the 1930 picnic picture in the lower right. Have a set of punches made by company, looked on line and found all this information. Thanks
ReplyDeleteIts a great photo...
DeleteYour grandfather probably worked in the power plant that was located on the west side of the main building...
Thanks for the info...
Found another worker who immigrated from Canada and also worked at the Swiss File & Tool Company. It appears that a Mr. George Dodds left Canada in 1910. George helped my grandfather secure his job in 1916 when Grandfather Sam McLelland left Canada.
